NSGA convened at the Keltic Lodge for a five-day three round tournament that also included whale-watching, great sightseeing, wonderful food, a lovely spa and great things to do. This was one of NSGA’s best events.
Opening cocktails were followed by a terrific opening dinner where all of our guests became acquainted and plans for our visit were laid out. Monday morning golfers convened on a GREAT golf course — Highland Links. It wasn’t easy but it was beautiful and fun to play. The weather was great for golf and for the artisan tour taken by our social attendees.
Tuesday was a very special day in that the golfers took a two hour ride to the brand new Cabot Links Golf Course on the other side of Cape Breton. The ride was SPECTACULAR through mountains and by the St. Lawrence. And then we got to another spectacular course! Cabot Links will quickly become a MUST play venue as it is a true links course but very playable (and similar to Bandon Dunes). Our caddies got us through it and we got lots of photos and even a few birdies.
The next day, Wednesday, was scheduled as a golf off-day but with whale watching. With high winds predicted and a captain who warned us not to sail, we chose to postpone the watching so that everyone could enjoy the spa, the lodge, the sightseeing and all that Cape Breton has to offer.
This made Thursday a busy day indeed. First, golf at Highland Links for our final round. Then, whale watching AND WE SAW A COUPLE OF FIN WHALES! Then, once we had freshened up, a six course tasting menu for dinner. All in all a great day.
What made this event extra special was the camaraderie that was engendered by the very hospitable Keltic Lodge, the welcome feeling emanating from those in Nova Scotia, the beauty of the surroundings and the genuine friendship that developed among our guests.
A maritime province on the Atlantic Ocean, Nova Scotia has a rich cultural heritage and breathtaking scenery. We’ll also be playing one of the world’s best golf courses and one of its newest and, potentially, another world class venue.
