Pinehurst Resort is one of our favorite places. And, once again, it came through with spectacular weather, great food, wonderful accommodations and outstanding golf for NSGA’s latest visit. Starting with a spectacular private dinner in the Crystal Room, NSGA’s Pinehurst 2013 tournament was a blast.
Comprised of a group of golfers and social attendees from all over the U.S. (Massachusetts to California, Oregon to South Carolina) this event was one of our most social and entertaining.
NSGA’s senior Amateur golf tournament included rounds on No. 2, No. 4 and No. 8. No. 4 is a recently updated version of a Donald Ross original. Its Tom Fazio renewal has made this course more beautiful and equally challenging. It’s an exceptional golf course. No. 2 is No. 2. With caddies and forecaddies joining each group, our members played the same course that will host next year’s Men’s and Women’s US Open. Despite slightly slower greens (9 vs. 12 for the Opens) this is still a tough but fair course with no rough and no water. It’s just plain exciting to be there. Finally, No. 8 is a beautiful Tom Fazio original so there were no level lies but plenty of playable holes. All great courses and tremendous fun.
While golfers played, our social attendees spent time at the Pinehurst Spa and in the village of Pinehurst where North Carolina pottery at its finest can be found. They returned, along with our golfers, each afternoon to our hospitality suite: a villa lounge with hors d’oeuvres, open bar, great conversation and lots of laughs.
We presented awards Wednesday night and everyone returned to the Carolina Restaurant for a gourmet closing dinner. The event ended with fine food, warm wishes and the hope that we’d all meet again at a future NSGA event.
